Why I Like... The Trap Play from Empty Gun

Empty QB Trap
If you are a team that uses a good deal of Empty sets and
need a new run play I would consider using a QB Trap Scheme. One way that I like using a Trap is as a Draw
play paired with Bubble/Quick Screen or paired with a Jet Sweep Action (diagrams
below). Disclaimer: I have not run this
formation or these plays myself, what you see below are concepts that I have
come up with on my own. If you run
something similar but don’t do it the way I do it, please be civil. If you have tips or pointers I would love to
see them for my own learning.
Trap Vs. 4-2-5 Over
Front Concept #1
In this concept I have an 3x2 Empty Set and I have a Jet motion going towards the 3 receiver side. Let's assume that you have run Jet Sweep a few times hoping that you get the defense to flow over to the Jet motion. I know that this looks a lot like a Jet Power Read, however in this set there is no read off the Jet and this is a pure QB Trap play.
Trap Vs. 4-2-5 Over Front Concept #2
This is a similar concept as the last one, the big difference here is that the PST instead of base blocking the end will leave him to get a LB. This play can be used as a Jet Power Read play with a QB Trap tagged to it.
Trap Vs. 3-4 Front Concept #1
I wanted to look at this play from a different defensive front so I looked at a 3-4 defensive front. I know that the End is highlighted as if he is a read, I forgot to erase the square but I guess you could still read him AND Trap him at the same time. If he widens out to defend the Jet that is an easy Trap read.
Trap Vs. 3-4 Front Concept #2
This is the same concept as before but instead of trapping the End, I have the PST base block and have the pulling guard get a LB. Now that I look at it a little closer I can see where someone will say that this is very similar to QB Power.
